Bethel was founded in 1844 as a communal colony by Wilhelm Keil and his German-American followers. The community was early noted for its handicrafts and musical band. These days, events held at the Colony help benefit ongoing preservation of Bethel Colony historic buildings.

Plus, plenty of food on hand… Bethel’s Fest Hall Restaurant will be open both days, serving breakfast starting at 6am, and then German and American buffet for lunch. The Colony Foodstand will have burgers and brats, walking tacos, nachos, spiral potatoes and onion rings, sodas . The Bacon family will be on hand with their delicious lemonade shakeups! Coffee and Lotus Drinks Saturday Chili Cook-off for charity from 10a-12p. Bring an entry, or just come and sample, then vote for your favorite! The Ice Cream Parlor will have South Dakota State University hand-dipped ice cream in a variety of flavors. Stop in at the Bethel Bakery for cinnamon rolls and other baked goods. The Bethel Candy Kitchen will have kettle corn, fudge, caramel apples, and other sweet treats. Small Batch Winery will be offering tasting and sales.
