Bethel recently lost a very important member of the Historic Bethel German Colony Board. Wendeline Brumbaug
h served this organization for decades, most recently as Colony Board President and a driving force behind humanities endeavors such as our youth and adult fiddle camps, as well as historical preservation efforts. We lost a leader, supporter and friend.
In discussing ways to honor and show our appreciation for Wendeline’s lifetime of service to this community, we were reminded of her long-held desire to see the Bethel Colony School House restored and even become useful again for tours, special classes and experiences for children.
Wendeline was always on the lookout for special funding and grants to begin this process, but nothing had yet materialized.
The Bethel Colony Board voted to pursue this project in 2025, starting with a structural assessment, floor and foundation work. If you would like to participate in the Bethel Colony School House Project, we are in the beginning stages of fundraising.
Tax-deductible memorial contributions may be mailed to Historic Bethel German Colony, Inc. (a registered non-profit) at 127 North Main Street, Bethel, MO 63434.
Requests for information about the project may be addressed to the Board officers, or any Board member:
